Mark Bates Ltd National Championships 2023

As the production partner for Table Tennis England, we once again headed up to Nottingham for the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships, our fifth time covering this amazing event showcasing the best of British!

Our team was 10-strong this year, and finals day was a long one, almost 9 hours of live streaming filmed with 8 cameras, live graphics, slow motion replay, live commentary and some top class action!. Streaming to TTE.TV, on the Joymo platform, our team once again produced superb coverage through the day, with every ball bounce, every umpire call and a thoroughly engaging commentary anchored by Colin Wilson and his guests, used to enhance the coverage.

British Diversity Awards

We were recently asked to provide the highlights coverage of the British Diversity Awards staged at Grosvenor House in London, which involved liaising with the in-house AV team, to cover the awards through this spectacular evening, topped off by a sensational performance by singer Emilie Sande.

The video is presently in production and will be released shortly – thanks to all at Diva Magazine, especially Fiona Marshall for all her help.

PRESS INFORMATION: Table Tennis England agrees 3-year production partnership with 1080 Media TV

Table Tennis England agrees 3-year production partnership with 1080 Media TV

London based 1080 Media TV has been selected as the production partner for Table January 25th 2023 – Tennis England (TTE), in a 3-year agreement as part of their new initiative with their online video and streaming platform TTE.TV

This is a significant agreement that is part of a new impetus for the sport in England, which has set out new goals and long term objectives to raise the profile of table tennis in the coming years, and continue to support the progress made at the elite level of performance as well.

England’s Paul Drinkhall in action

The team at 1080 Media TV are no strangers to this however, having covered many previous international and national championships. Cliff Webb, who founded the company 15-years ago said, ‘’We’re delighted to have been selected by Table Tennis England to be their production partner in this new agreement, as after many years of working together with them, we have gained a huge amount of experience and insight in covering the sport. Certainly one of the highlights for us, was the incredible ITTF Team World Cup staged in London in 2018, when TTE hosted the top nations in the world. It was a challenge working as the host broadcaster for this, given the wide international coverage required on both our World Feed, and the special coverage for TV Tokyo ahead of the Olympics, but a fabulous result, seen and enjoyed around the globe. The new TTE.TV initiative recently launched is just as exciting we feel, as it’s an opportunity to focus people in one platform to watch the best action, and we are looking forward to working with TTE to help build and develop this in the coming years’’.

The first major coverage of this new agreement begins on Thursday the 26th  and 27th of January, with an international ‘double-header’, as England’s men first take on the strong team from Serbia in Group A6, and then a day later, face a visit from France. Both matches are part of the European Table Tennis Union’s European stage for the European Championships later in the year. England started their campaign by beating Serbia 3-2 in the away match before Christmas.

Commenting for Table tennis England, Head of Engagement Keely Armitt said, ‘’1080 Media TV have built an excellent understanding of our sport and have delivered consistently strong productions of our events in recent years, so we’re delighted to further cement our relationship with them. The launch of our new channel, TTE.TV, gives us a huge and exciting opportunity to take our sport to new heights in partnership with them, showcasing the best of English table tennis to existing and new supporters all over the world.

As well as live TTE.TV coverage, both matches will have a live audience of hundreds of enthusiastic supporters at the venue.

TRAVEL MEDIA AWARDS 2020

Celebrating outstanding talent within travel  media, including writing, blogging,  photography and broadcast”
“IT’S REFRESHING TO SEE THE PLANET UNFOLD AT THE GENTLE SPEED OF A BICYCLE”
As our judges start to deliberate over the 2021 entries, we look back to 2020 and speak to Simon Parker, who won the Travel Broadcast Programme of the Year Travel Media Award for Earth Cycle.   Can you tell us what Earth Cycle is about?
The show is about charting the seasonal cycles of the natural world, as I pass through on a bicycle. That’s where the play on words came from: Earth Cycle. In this first series I cycled 2,000 miles and documented lots of interesting projects along the way, such as endangered bee species, invasive king crabs and seasonal mushrooms.

What drew you to Scandinavia as a location?
I’ve worked on a lot of stories there in the past and it fitted perfectly for the concept of our show. It’s wild and open, and the right to roam allows for wild camping – which is a key part of Earth Cycle.

You cycled and sailed from China to London in 2016, racing with and against the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. How did this compare to that other epic journey?

This journey was much more about the interesting projects we found along the way. My sail and cycle from China to London was more of a race — I much prefer the pace of Earth Cycle.

Why do you think the concept of slow travel is important?
It’s refreshing to see the planet unfold at the gentle speed of a bicycle and with the frantic speed of the news cycle these days I think that people are yearning for a slower pace of life. Social media and rolling news are far too fast. It’s restorative to slow down a bIt from time to time.

How do you feel about winning the Travel Broadcast Programme of the Year award?

Extremely chuffed. I jumped around my office when the announcement was made. Cliff, the team at 1080 Media TV, and I slogged away on this for a long time, so it means a great deal. Cliff and I have always known we’ve got a good concept for a show, and this proved to us that other people share that passion too.

Do you think the principles espoused in Earth Cycle will be taken on by more travellers after the Covid-19 crisis?

I would think so. I see bicycle touring becoming even more popular than it already is. In our Covid world it’s the best way to have a big adventure in your own safe bubble. Hopefully Earth Cycle can offer some inspiration.

Have you got other journeys in mind?

Always. I can’t wait to hit the road again. Cliff and I are hoping to do another series of Earth Cycle and I’m personally working on more adventure cycling content all around Britain and the world. Just need some normality to resume.         ENTER NOW

1080 Media TV Continues Support of LDN UTD

LDN UTD TEAM UP WITH THE RIO FERDINAND FOUNDATION FOR UTD AGAINST RACISM.

LDN UTD and Rio Ferdinand Foundation announce esports event to empower young people in the UK, in tandem with a celebrity FIFA 21 “Pro-Am”. The Foundation, a youth and community development charity, is celebrating 10 years of creating strong, safe and inclusive communities. LDN UTD is the esports org that unites professional esports and grassroots gaming with healthy lifestyle and social issues. Fans will have the opportunity to compete in open qualifiers to play alongside elite sports athletes and influencers in a live stream on 30th May.

All profits from the event will be donated, along with funds raised through the stream, to deliver empowerment and skills workshops to enable young people to tackle racism and inequality in their own communities.
LDN UTD and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation today announce UTD AGAINST RACISM, an online event empowering the young community through the medium of esports, to take place on 30th May2021.

LDN UTD is the esports org that promotes healthy lifestyle and addresses social issues, using the platform of gaming and esports. LDN UTD  has previously held events to address special issues including knife crime, and in October last year, held UTD Against Racism with Leyton Orient FC and Kingston Race and Equalities Council.  The Rio Ferdinand Foundation works to strengthen the UK’s most deprived communities to tackle inequality, and recently announced a programme of activities to celebrate its ten year anniversary.

The forthcoming UTD Against Racism stream draws on the support of like-minded organisations, to stand together, to inspire opportunity, and to celebrate youth-led social action.  Fans will be offered the opportunity to compete in open qualifiers for FIFA 21 with a chance to play alongside celebrities in the finals brackets on Sunday 30th May, which will be broadcast live on LDNUTD’s Twitch channel and produced by 1080 Media TV.

In tandem with the theme of empowering young people, the stream will include a short film shown in segments on how young people see solutions to racism one year on from the death of George Floyd, as well as other content from celebrity participants, and Rio Ferdinand Foundation Youth Ambassador Leo Brown from Belfast, an ex Birmingham City footballer who broke into esports when recovering from injury.   The talent line-up will include Rak-Su singer and TV personality, Myles Stephenson,  LDN UTD Ambassador ShaunaGames, LDN UTD FIFA Pro Adam Ryan, and professional darts player and Sky Sports pundit Devon Petersen, with many more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Rio Ferdinand said, “My hopes for the event is to get loads of young people involved, not because they have to get involved, because they want to. Obviously, Rio Ferdinand Foundation being very youth orientated, it will be amazing to see a lot of interaction with young people. I will do everything I can to support this. It hits home, it means a lot to me in my own personal life and I don’t want my kids to experience what I’ve experienced or experience things that other people have experienced. Now is the time to change”. Leo Brown said,“UTD Against Racism is something we should all get behind as it doesn’t just affect people of colour or people from certain ethnic minorities, it affects us all. We are all entwined in some way or another and I feel like creating that safe space for equality can benefit everyone. ShaunaGames, Ambassador for LDN UTD, and renowned FIFA content creator said, “Youth-led programmes being provided by the Rio Ferdinand Foundation play a pivotal role in connecting our communities and empowering change.

At LDN UTD we want to play our part in addressing social change, raise awareness through the medium of esports, and support equality.” Myles Stephenson – Rak-Su singer and TV personality – said,  “As a mixed raced man raised in the U.K I am proud of both my British & Caribbean heritage. Unfortunately, not everyone celebrates cultural differences and I’ve experienced racism myself. As a result, any opportunity I get to support the fight against racism and where we can bring people together, I want to be involved.

#UTDAgainstRacism”   Registration for the qualifiers which will take place in partnership with the Challengermode platform will be via the LDN UTD website. Full details of qualifier formats and talent will be released in the coming weeks via @ldnutd and @riofoundation on Twitter.

1080 Media TV appointed host broadcaster for 2021 Transpacific Yacht Race

The Transpacific Yacht Club in California, has appointed London based 1080 Media TV as Host Broadcaster for the 51st edition of this famous biennial Los Angeles to Honolulu yacht race.

It’s regarded as a classic ‘Open Water’ race, stretching 2225-miles across the Pacific Ocean from the USA’s west coast to the finish in front of the iconic ‘Diamond Head’ volcano in Hawaii. It was first sailed in 1906 as an idea inspired a decade earlier by Hawaiian King David Kalakaua, and has been an attraction for all avid ocean racers and adventurers ever since.

Director of Media Operations for the Transpacific Yacht Club, Dobbs Davis, said of the agreement, ‘’this is a new departure for us as part of our concerted drive to bring the race to a broader international audience beyond our traditional following in the US and around the Pacific Rim. Given the history of this race, the scale of its organization, and it’s continually growing reputation as a spectacular race to compete in, we are keen to harness 1080 Media TV’s skills and sphere of operations to begin that process. We already have 60 entries confirmed, including many previous winners, and we are hoping that new records can be set this year for the fastest crossing, weather permitting.”

Cliff Webb, Founder and CEO of London based 1080 Media TV said, ’We’re very pleased to have been selected by the club as their host broadcast partner, as it’s a race that’s been on my list of ‘must do’s’ for many years given its reputation. With our background in the sport, we’ve been involved in most of the high-profile events and regattas around the world at some stage over the years, and our team is really looking forward to this and creating a fabulous TV show around the event. We’re also producing news and highlights coverage, and we already have interest from broadcast outlets around the world as we begin the process of broadening exposure for the race, and the companies involved with it.”

As expected however, there have been some tough decisions made by management at TPYC given the global health crisis. “The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges for us in planning this 51st edition of the race,” said TPYC Commodore Jim Eddy, “particularly for shore side logistics and social events at both the start and finish venues. Nonetheless, we have been working through many scenarios with some expert help and feel confident about conducting this race safely, so the race is ON.”

The event begins with three race starts, the first beginning July 13th, with different classes taking part each day, the largest and fastest yachts starting last on the 17th. In 2017 multiple race records were broken, with Jim Clark’s VPLP 100 foot yacht Comanche skippered by Ken Read, setting the new ‘Merlin Trophy’ elapsed time record at 5 days 1 hour 55 minutes 26 seconds for an impressive average speed on the course of 18 knots. Comanche also set the best 24-hour distance record at 484.1 nm, a 20.2 knot average speed.

eSports #RoadtoYANA tournament

Very pleased with our latest FIFA20 esports tournament, all remotely managed over the weekend for LDNUTD.

The #RoadtoYANA FIFA20 Tournament in aid of the CALM Charity, The Campaign Against Living Miserably, a leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK, was designed to find a budding new amateur gaming star.

This is Oliver Weingarten’s eSports team who we have been assisting since its start up almost 2 years ago., and the concept for LDNUTD is fabulous, a grassroots esports organisation designed to get youngsters into the team and help change their lives, and has created wonderful opportunities for gamers to prepare for going pro into the potentially lucrative esports arena. This latest event offered the winner a place in the forthcoming YANA e-tournament against many of the top pros in the country. Entry was open to all and managed by Battelfy who have  been powering esports for many years, and who coordinated and ran the tournament superbly with the gamers.

As a ‘no-budget’, for charity production, it meant simultaneously coordinating 21 people online with their live streams  and ensuing back-channel comms, including the final 8 players who had never been involved in an event of this type, 2 casters, and a presenter, so the production coordination in running the event live, for almost 4 hours was significant! As  host broadcaster, 1080 Media TV brought in long time IT partners Northcote Internet to manage the bandwidth and tech required with their Wowza servers and fibre lines, given that the whole event was reliant on these amateur gamers (very variable!) home internet connections. This meant compromises had to be made – no gamer-cams due to bandwidth, but the casters John Pritchard and Southampton eSports star ‘Venny’, managed the commentary superbly, while Presenter Amy (@thatsportspice) linked the show throughout on cue, interviewing winners of each game live.

Streaming to the Twitch homepage, the show achieved over 70,000 unique viewers and 250,000 total views over the 7 matches, and with a decisive 11-3 goal aggregate win in the 2-leg final, Dennis Green (aged 16 from Dorset) now moves on to represent LDNUTD and face the pros in the main event next week. He said, ‘’I enjoyed it but I haven’t really processed it yet! It’s brilliant that I’ve won it, definitely didn’t think that would happen, it’s just amazing’’. We wish him the best of luck…

Thanks to the supporting companies – G-Science, Low Cost Glasses, eSwap Pro controller & Thrustmaster.

Mark Bates Ltd Table Tennis England National Championships 2020

For the 4th consecutive year, we were invited to partner with Table Tennis England to provide coverage as host broadcaster for the National Championships – and what an event, yet again…

With BBC Sport’s website again hosting the live coverage, together with YouTube the first couple of days, it was fascinating to see our top stars battle their way through to the finals once again, though  there were some massively encouraging performances from young and rising stars too.

Using our own custom built fly-away system, we live streamed for almost 13 hours on the first day in Nottingham, 10 hours on day 2, and on the finals day, we covered 10 matches including the Para finals. This was non-stop action from 9.30 in the morning to the finish and final awards and interviews after 6pm – quite a marathon for our team.

The live signal was delivered to BBC Sport’s MCR via our 4G WMT transmitter, as our unit is registered with the BBC’s incoming pool of transmitters, so it was as simple as dragging a box online via the LinkMatrix system to connect. We used a combination of provided ethernet connection at the venue and 4G sims, transmitting at 13-  15Mb all day without a hitch.

With 9 camera coverage directed by Ben Blake, including wireless cameras, replays, graphics, reliable and talented commentators Don and Colin up in their box, and presenters working with Table Tennis England’s team, it was again considered a ‘top class’ production by BBC Sport – always nice to know…

Well done all, great fun yet again and thanks to everyone at Table Tennis England for all the support and coordination involved especially of course, Paul and Becci in comms, Neil, Chris, Carol and everyone else from events and competitions.

Brighton & Hove Albion FC – ePL Live stream production

A full on day producing the live streaming coverage for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club for DSM/Icon Events – awesome event!

All done in one day – in and out, live for 6 hours coverage as their club qualifiers ran through the elimination stages playing FIFA20 to reach a winner who will represent the club in the ePL finals.

Hosted by star casters Richard and Brandon, and streaming to YouTube and the Club’s own website simultaneously, it was a fabulous event to be involved with, and with some pretty awesome talent emerging !

Good luck in the grand finals guys…

2019 Update

It’s been a storming 2019 for us so far – new events, new experiences, travels and clients that have certainly been keeping us busy…

Notable highlights:  Our first venture into E-Sports took off in London with live streaming of the LDN UTD team trials, playing FIFA19. Great fun, and fabulous players – 3 hours live across multiple platforms and with feeds from multiple screens. Followed by an ePremier League event from Southampton FC with DSM and Icon Events. Highlights of the live stream here: https://youtu.be/msF7MSbxIxM

Then it was London Fashion Week – working with HITen media on the coverage for top designer Paria Farzaneh, with a cat walk live stream. https://youtu.be/SREuslINNXk

For the first few months of the year we had the pleasure of interviewing a range of top people for a 52-minute documentary show we are making about Sir Robin  Knox-Johnston, the founder of the Clipper Race, and the first man to sail non-stop solo, around the world back in 1969. Coming soon – interviews included Sir Ben Ainslie, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the BBC’s John Simpson, sailors Dee Caffari and Alex Thomson and more. Link  to trailer here: https://youtu.be/1nXTjkZBRLs

And we produced a one hour show for BBC Radio 4 on Sir Robin’s achievement, for their ‘Archive Hour’ which was extremely well received. You need to go to the BBC iPlayer to hear it though – sorry!

In amongst this – one again we were back in Nottingham for the Table Tennis England, PG National Championships; 3 days of live coverage – sending the signal back to BBC Sport’s MCR with our 4G transmission system. 9 camera coverage around the centre court, live interviews, live scoring graphics – full on coverage where our expertise came to the fore once again. Great team – well done everyone. Here’s the men’s finals, clipped out from the live coverage: https://youtu.be/OkeX6rwxtuI

Another event at the fabulous Boisdale restaurant in canary Wharf, covering the Lawrence Dallaglio Foundation annual lunch, with a stellar line up of speakers from the rugby world.

We’ve also been shooting many events for the Clipper Race as this continues to ramp up towards the live start on September 1st this year.

The Clipper Race Skippers 19-20.

We covered corporate partner events, the new skipper announcements, boat reveals, and had the pleasure of covering Sir Robin on his famous Suhaili yacht out on the Solent – fabulous!  Skipper reveal here: https://youtu.be/8KH2YfrDKFI

And most recently, it was a major event in Australia as host broadcaster for the International Rafting Federation’s 2019 World Rafting Championships. Up in Queensland’s north east territory, the remote Tully River was the venue with over 50 teams arriving from around the world to take part. We’re producing a one hour TV show on this, soon to be released. What an event, awesome location, amazing rapids and a great contest.

A fun video for the last night party edited by Sean from IRF!

1080 MEDIA TV’S CLIPPER RACE FILM WINS AT WATERPROOF FESTIVAL IN GENEVA

1080 Media TV has won another award, this time at the Waterproof Film Festival in Geneva for a specially produced film in French, that is the story of one of our on board reporters on the Clipper Race.

A new short film called La Course de Leur Vie has been created to tell the story of Maéva Bardy, one of our on board video-journalists on the 2017-18 edition of the epic global challenge. Premiering last week at the Waterproof Festival in Geneva, Switzerland, the film, the title of which translates to Race of Your Life, has just been awarded the Prix du Public, awarded by the public vote.

Maéva, who is from the city of Lyon, France, was part of the team from 1080 Media TV producing the documentary series which follows the Clipper Race during its 40,000 nautical mile adventure. In the film she shares her insight and behind the scenes footage of her experiences during the three legs which took her to Australia (Fremantle), China (Sanya and Qingdao), the United States (Seattle and New York), Northern Ireland (Derry Londonderry) and Race Finish in Liverpool, UK.

One of the breathtaking stories within La Course de Leur Vie takes place during the mighty North Pacific Ocean race. The crew faced hurricane force winds, waves up to 14 metres high (the equivalent of a four storey building) and freezing cold conditions. With one hand for the boat and one for her camera, Maeve captured the sheer magnitude of this immense ocean crossing, the extremity of the weather and also the exhilaration and exhaustion of the crew as they battled with Mother Nature.

1080 Media TV CEO Cliff Webb said, ”we’re delighted to accept another award like this as it’s voted for by the viewers and about one of our team, showing the kind of conditions they have to endure in order to get these up close and personal stories around the race. Along with Daniella Devine who sailed the entire race from start to finish, we had 2 fabulous women as our prime reporters for the first time in producing Series 3 of ‘The Race of Their Lives’, a human adventure series about the people taking part in the Clipper Race and all they experience along the way. It’s a hell of an achievement for the whole team involved in this 18-month long production’.

Of making a Clipper Race yacht her office, Maeve says: “it was a big challenge that I rose to because it was the hardest working conditions I had ever had. There are things I miss. The adrenaline of the starts and the elation of the finishes. My desk: the ocean.

The Clipper Race is now gearing up for its twelfth edition which is due to start in summer 2019. Want to learn more about our crew from the 2019-20 edition? Check out our news page to find out their #ReasonToRace.

Clipper Race Coverage Continues

It was a very busy summer for all the Clipper Race Crews as they sailed their way through the final few months of the circumnavigation.

After leaving Qingdao in China, they took on the North Pacific and what a race this was, with light wind to begin with but then Hurricane force 100 mph storms, and monstrous swells, with the wave conditions officially described as ‘phenomenal’. Her’s our wrap video of the race:

https://youtu.be/2LgDo3DJ0lw

Then from Seattle it was a fabulous race down to a finish off of Costa Rica, and then through  the Panama Canal. Our team flew to Panama City to cover the transit and had a fascinating visit to the city to see the yachts depart, and head for the next race to New York.

On the way, the teams had the most incredible experience with wildlife through thee two races – with Dani Devine and Maeva Bardy filming on board together with the crew members. Video here:

The Race of Their Lives Episode 4

The award-winning Race of Their Lives – the documentary showcasing the incredible achievements of the Clipper 2017-18 Round the World Yacht Race crew – is set to return for the Asia-Pacific Leg 5.

For the first time in the two-decade history of the Clipper Race, the fleet raced to two Chinese Host Ports, Sanya and Qingdao, and all the action and adventure of these two very different races will once again be broadcast across the United Kingdom on Sky Sports and on FOX in Australia.

Beginning in the wondrous Whitsundays in Australia, Episode 4 will showcase the warm hospitality of Far North Queensland and the amazing events of the inaugural Clipper Race Carnival that the crew were lucky enough to experience before setting off on the first stage of Leg 5 – the Forever Tropical Paradise Race 7 to Sanya, China.

The second crossing of the equator tested all eleven teams, with the heat making life uncomfortable on board. But despite the hardships, the racing was once again thrilling, with the placings only decided in the last few hours of the 4,300nm race. PSP Logistics clinched its first win and was followed across the finish line by Dare To Lead and Qingdao, whilst the fourth placed Sanya Serenity Coast received a hero’s welcome to it’s home port.

This was the first time the Clipper Race fleet had visited Sanya and the city, known as the Oriental Hawaii, put on a show. From the Welcome Ceremony, which included dragon dancers and fireworks to the incredible Prize Giving, the Stopover will be a highlight of the circumnavigation for the majority of crew.

Sanya was also the scene of the first ever in-port race, with all eleven Skippers hugely impressed by the incredible sailing conditions in the waters off Hainan Island.

Race 8, the Sailing City Qingdao Cup, from Sanya to Qingdao was a direct contrast. The tropical heat soon gave way to icy conditions and all the teams were kept on their toes racing through the world’s biggest fishing fleet in the Yellow Sea.

The legendary Qingdao welcome was on show for the boat arrivals at the newly constructed Wanda Yacht Club in the West Coast New Area, particularly for Visit Seattle, which clinched its second win in Race 8.

10 YEARS OLD….

Ten Years Old!  – It’s ten years ago, on April 15 2008 that the company was established, and still going strong!

A tremendous amount has happened in those years, some fabulous memories and some tough times and long hours too, but we’ve been fortunate to have worked with some amazingly talented people, travelled extensively to some wonderful places, and had more than our fair share of fun mixed in too.

Thanks to all of the clients who have entrusted us with their projects and productions, both past and present; to the multitude of freelancers and staff who have worked with us on the travels around the planet; and to everyone who joined us in helping to reach this milestone in some way, too many to mention.

We’ve been very fortunate indeed, as it’s been a fascinating journey so far, with lots more yet to come.

Thanks to all.

International Acclaim for 1080 Media TV production – Broadcast Report

ITTF – 2018 Team World Cup, London, Host TV Broadcast report

International_Table_Tennis_Federation_(logo)IMG_6858

London based 1080 Media TV were chosen as the Host Broadcaster for the prestigious 2018 International Table Tennis Federation Team World Cup event, following the success of their coverage of Table Tennis England’s international matches and national championships through 2017.

The event at the Copper Box Arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, from February 22-25, saw the top nations competing for the title and 270,000 USD prize money, with the very best men’s and women’s international players in the world competing for their country. The event was last staged in 2015 in Dubai, and it is the first time that England has won the right to host this level of competition (outside of the 2012 Olympic Games) for over 20 years.

The team at 1080 Media TV set out to provide world class coverage to match the standard of competition, with over 100 countries, including CCTV in China, expected to air the live coverage for up to 10 hours a day over four days. Additionally, TV Tokyo from Japan wanted to pro   duce their own personalised coverage of the event each day, given the popularity of the sport in Japan. As Host Broadcaster, 1080 Media TV managed their complex requirements also, coordinating all of their facilities in London and providing additional crew to supplement the 37 attending from Japan.

Four courts were built for the opening two days of the event’s group stages, with the main show court being covered exclusively by 1080 Media TV as host, and Table 2 covered by TV Tokyo with a further 10 cameras, and where the Japanese matches were played in the first two days. The ITTF also streamed tables 3 and 4 to their itTV.com platform with a single camera, in addition to the multi-camera coverage from Tables 1 and 2.

In the UK, the BBC Sport website and Connected TV showed the England group matches played on the center court, and there was success for England’s men as they advanced to the quarter final knockout stage, while England’s women were eliminated in their group. All matches now focused on the center court for the final weekend, with TV Tokyo supplementing the 11 cameras on the sole remaining court with a further 4, enabling the Japanese director to alternate from the world feed with customized coverage for the audience watching live in Japan.

Facilities for the event which required 4 super-slow mo cameras with 80x lenses on each court, were supplied by Timeline TV. Their impressive UHD 2 outside broadcast unit was used for the host broadcast team, and their OB16 unit for TV Tokyo. 1080 Media TV CEO Cliff Webb said, ‘‘The Timeline TV facilities were first class, and the guarantee crew and team they supplied were excellent. As Executive Producer, it meant I could focus on the quality of the production rather than the technical aspects, and manage the coordination with the different levels of management and stake holders involved in an event of this scale’’.

Esports company ESL were contracted to manage the complex broadcast graphics required for both broadcast teams. Sam Deans, ESL Executive Producer said, ‘’we were thrilled to be able to offer our services. Being native to the esports and gaming industry, it was a clear measure of how far esports broadcast production has evolved, as we were able to execute this to the high quality demanded. We were very impressed by 1080 Media TV’s level of production, and can’t wait until the next time our services can be utilised’’.

_MG_9422 - Copy (1024x597)Host nation England succeeded in advancing to the semi-final stage in the men’s competition ensuring them of a precious Bronze medal, but their progress was halted by the number one ranked nation, China, who faced off against Japan in a tense final. With a full house at the Copper Box arena, China’s women defeated Japan in their final, and their men’s team repeated the achievement in a thrilling contest. With translated on court interviews after each match, and 15 cameras around the court including 2 miniature cameras mounted on the table for a unique view of the action, together with a 6m jib roaming above, the coverage of this top class action was comprehensive for broadcasters around the world.

ITTF Head of Media Matt Pound commented “We were very impressed with the professionalism and flexibility shown by 1080 Media TV. The Team World Cup was a Gallery (2) (1024x482)complex broadcasting situation, and 1080 Media was able to manage the entire process seamlessly. The world feed production they produced was brilliant, and all of ITTF’s rights holders were very pleased with the pictures received from London.”

Table Tennis England Chief Executive Sara Sutcliffe said, “When we first worked with 1080 Media TV, we were impressed how quickly they got to know our sport and how this translated into high-quality coverage. Their expertise and willingness to ‘go the extra mile’ has been invaluable in assisting our mission to raise the profile of table tennis in this country.”

Cliff Webb of 1080 Media TV said, ‘‘Together with the Japanese, our crew totaled 98 people working long days on this event, which demanded substantial coordination and planning to deliver what proved to be a multifaceted production. We enjoyed fabulous cooperation with the ITTF and Table Tennis England staff, with Lagadere’s satellite coordination, the army of volunteers, and the team at the Copper Box Arena. Our thanks to everyone for their support and dedication in helping us produce another world class TV production’’.

TABLE TENNIS ENGLAND broadcasts deals announced

Publish date:

Table TenniSport-Bible-Sky-Sports-Mixs England has agreed broadcast rights deals with two of the UK’s biggest broadcasters this week in a new sign of the sport’s resurgence.

1080 Media TV to produce another live stream and Sky Sports Mix TV show of one hour.

The 2017 PG Mutual National Championships will broadcast live on TheSPORTbible after Table Tennis England signed a deal with Europe’s largest and most successful social video publisher, TheLADbible Group.

Highlights of the tournament will also be shown on Sky Sports, home to some of Britain’s best sporting content.

The men’s doubles, women’s singles and men’s singles finals will be shown live on TheSPORTbible Facebook page on Sunday March 5th, from 2.15pm.

The deal builds on the success of England Leopard’s European Qualifying match against Greece in November, which attracted a record 2.2million unique viewers on TheSPORTbible Facebook page.

TheSPORTbible is one of the UK’s most visited sports media websites. It has more than nine-and-a-half million fans on Facebook.

The production will be provided by 1080 Media via six cameras around centre court, with full commentary and player interviews.

In addition, highlights of the PG Mutual National Championships will be shown on Sky Sports Mix at a later date.

Sky Sports Mix is a new sports channel on Sky TV which is free to air for many viewers and shows a diverse range of sports.

Mark Taffler, Head of Commercial at Table Tennis England, said:

“I am very pleased to be working with TheSPORTbible again.

The fact the leading sports website in the country wanted to take another of our live broadcasts is a real indicator as to the health of our sport in England.

Recent figures published by the government show that 450k people play table tennis a month.  We are in the top 20 of participation sports in the country.  By having a true partnership – which is what we have with TheSPORTbible – we continue to disrupt broadcast market, take our sport to new audiences and offer real value to our commercial partners.

2.2m people watched our England Leopards play Greece.  We are very excited to see how many people will tune in to see the best talent in England battle it out!”

Paul Rayner, Publisher, TheSPORTbible, added:

“As our previous partnership with Table Tennis England demonstrated, there’s a massive global appetite for many of the mass participation sports that traditional sporting TV networks have chosen not to cover.

Many established players suddenly woke  up when they realised over two million people watched our last tie-up, with many staying online for longer than average.  We even heard from our viewers who decided to give table tennis a go at their local club.

We have exciting plans for 2017 and will be working with a number of sports bodies and rights owners to stream their content, but we look forward to continued co-operation with Table Tennis England, a pioneering partner.”

The PG Mutual National Championships is the most prestigious event in the English domestic calendar and is being staged in Nottingham from March 3-5.

The best 32 male and 32 female table tennis players in the country, including up to six Team GB members from London and Rio, will battle it out in singles and doubles competitions. There are also a number of para competitions on the Saturday, featuring up to eight members of the Paralympics GB squad from Rio.

Babolat Masters Cup – touchtennis live coverage and TV show

Our team was appointed to cover the Babolat Masters Cup, end of season finale to the touchtennis tour. Promoted and backed by the Lawn Tennis Association, the sport founded by Rashid Ahmad is growing quickly.

We provided 4 hours of live online coverage to the sports own FaceBook page, then switched to the SportBible FaceBook page for the final hour to feature an exhibition match between Britain’s ATP player Marcus Willis and top selling rapper Sean Paul.

https://www.facebook.com/SPORTbible/videos/2142943999184454/

Over 900,000 viewers enjoyed the action through the broadcasts. We then produced a half hour TV slot which first aired on Sky Sports on the 20th December at 19.30 and has repeats through the week.

1080 Media TV were appointed to provide multi-camera coverage and live stream England’s European Qualifying table tennis match against Greece on 1st November 2016. This attracted a record 2.2 million unique viewers to the live broadcast on TheSPORTbible Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/SPORTbible/videos/2111350545677133/

Breaking new ground for both rightsholder and broadcaster, the full fixture was broadcast exclusively digitally, achieving viewing figures which surpass many major televised football fixtures.

The audience figures establish clearly for the first time the market for stream-only sports events, reaching an audience demographic of millennials which mainstream broadcasters have found increasingly difficult to engage with.

The stream-only broadcast marks a first both for sports governing bodies in England and digital publisher TheSPORTbible (whose reach of 100m a week makes it more popular than both the Daily Mail and the Guardian websites).

Mark Taffler, Head of Commercial at Table Tennis England, believes that the broadcast could pave the way to a whole new market for sports rights. He said: “We’ve proved that there is a market for this kind of broadcast – and that it’s a big market. By broadcasting through TheSPORTbible we’ve bypassed the traditional sports rights market and gone to where the audience is. As a strategy, it’s proved incredibly effective. The same night as Man City were playing Barcelona in the Champions League, there were 2.2m people watching table tennis. There is an appetite from people to watch our sport and, through a platform like The SPORTbible, we are finding them.”

After this – we 1080 Media TV were then commissioned for a Women’s International in Gillingham on November 22nd and this was another huge success with England also winning this match 3-2, and with another sizeable audience watching our live stream on Team GB’s FaceBook page.

Exciting times and hugely enjoyable to be involved.

UK based rights holder Clipper Ventures Plc has announced it will retain the 1080 Media Organisation as Official Host Broadcaster for the eleventh edition of the unique biennial ocean endurance challenge for every-day people that is the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

We decided to maintain the momentum and interest by committing to a third season now. I feel it is the most compelling human adventure sports show of its type,” added Levy, who is also Executive Producer.

1080 Media TV said it was delighted to retain the rights for a third season to produce and distribute the global long-form official TV series, live feeds, news and social media packages. “We will continue to develop a strong multiplatform approach which maximises traditional broadcast and new digital media opportunities for a strong global brand like the Clipper Race,” said Founder and CEO of the 1080 Media Organisation, Cliff Webb.

“We aim to build the international distribution even further for the 2017-18 Clipper Race series and we are still receiving strong interest in the second award-winning season of The Race of Their Lives which is now available as a full series following the completion of the last edition this summer. Broadcasters are also keen to extend rights for a third season.”

UNIQUE GLOBAL EVENT

Not for the elite, this is for every-day people, from all walks of life, who take on the world’s toughest endurance challenge: The Clipper Race is undoubtedly the greatest ocean adventure on the planet with 700 people, spanning three generations and 42 nationalities board the one-design fleet of twelve identical 70-foot racing yachts competing in a series of 14 races between six continents, notching up almost 50,000 miles over 11 months.  Many are novices and have never sailed before their extensive training. It’s a challenge that tests the physical and mental boundaries of everyone involved as they take on ‘Mother Nature’ in the raw from hurricane force winds to frustrating doldrums, freezing temperatures and blistering heat.

Without doubt, one of the best evenings of the year – lots of hard work from our team, but a glittering night!

Staged in the fabulous Great Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park lane in London, our team was responsible for all the sound, the screens, the lighting and the camera coverage as 600 guests celebrated this amazing milestone in Clipper Ventures history.

We had a table of guests there too and were honoured to be a partner to the Clipper Race and mentioned on their wall of fame.

Circumnavigator Richard Edwards also produced this excellent video for us which opened the evening:

The familiar Clipper Race sailing attire was swapped for dinner jackets, bow ties and glamourous dresses this weekend in the sublime setting of the Great Room in the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.

More than 600 crew and skippers, plus supporters, staff and partners from the years celebrated twenty years of the greatest ocean adventure on the planet, and helped raise our Unicef fundraising total to a staggering £330,000, with many proceeds still to be added.

On the landmark celebrations, Chairman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said: “Myself and William are incredibly proud to be here with you all, celebrating the Clipper Race’s twentieth anniversary.

“I created the race as I wanted everyone to have the opportunity to experience what I, and very few others had been fortunate to experience. A circumnavigation is one of the toughest, but most powerful experiences you can have in life.

“The challenges of crossing an ocean, digging deep with your crew mates to reach a finish line in a race which often seems never-ending, and overcoming the fatigue of facing Mother Nature’s fiercest faces, provides you with an incredible opportunity to exceed ordinary human limits.

“Couple this with the incredible highs and jubilant celebrations that come with completing something that few people on this planet dare to experience and you know why the Clipper Race is so special. It is an achievement which lasts a lifetime. It can never be taken away from you, no matter how many years pass or how life continues,” Sir Robin added.

Guests enjoyed a sumptuous three course dinner ahead of an engaging charity auction which raised in excess of £80,000 for Unicef. The top lot of the evening, a sail for four people on board Suhaili with Sir Robin went for two bids totalling £20,000 after the successful first bidder paid £10,000 but then rather amusingly declared he got seasick easily and didn’t want to actually go out on the water, so re-entered the prize.

Lily Caprani, Unicef Deputy Executive Director, told the crowd: “The Clipper Race is where individuals challenge themselves to do things that are difficult, to overcome their fears and be courageous and to really go that extra mile, and they do it all around the world. That is very similar to what Unicef does in its aim to keep children safe around the planet so it makes perfect sense to me that we partner together and help to change other people’s lives in the process.

“We are incredibly grateful to Sir Robin and William who made this partnership possible and to everyone who has supported Unicef through the Clipper Race. We look forward to working more together as this fantastic partnership continues.”

Proceeds from the ticket sales, raffle, and interactive heads and shoulders game are yet to be added to the overall Unicef fundraising total.

During the evening, CEO William Ward, whose son Andrew was the youngest person to take part in the first race, said: “I was initially drawn into the Clipper Race based on the early crew applications and the overwhelming enthusiasm people showed towards the challenge.

“Over the years we’ve shared incredible achievements in outstanding places around the world and built a very exclusive network which feels much like a family in the process. Sir Robin has grown to be one of my closest friends over the years. Like any business, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing, especially in the early years when we were working hard to get it off the ground, but whenever it seemed the world was against us we stood shoulder to shoulder. That sort of bond is hard to find.

“I thank all those who have dared to live a life less ordinary, our business partners who share our ambitions and have used our unique platform for incredible results, and our team who work tirelessly round the clock and round the world to provide this once-in-a-lifetime experience and help us to keep the race evolving on its journey.”

Familiar faces of the Clipper Race family unsurprisingly took the Clipper Race party spirit into full swing when Harry Hammersmith & the Flyovers got everyone clambering to the dance floor, before party band MadHen took over as the night continued and almost raised the roof of the Great Hall with its mad mash up style of classic and modern dance hits.

186 crew departed Plymouth for the Clipper 96 Race on Wednesday 16 October on board eight 60-foot yachts for a race route based on that taken by the historic tea clippers. Today, more than 700 people take part on a third generation fleet of twelve 70 foot yachts, and the race is also used as a powerful business platform for destinations and leading brands, but the raw experience and challenge is the same as crew pit themselves against Mother Nature.

1080 Media TV Wins Two Prestigious Awards – Best Documentary Series

clipper race shot1080 Media TV has won two categories in the TMT Media Awards – ‘Best Documentary Series-UK’ for their seven part series called ‘The Race of Their Lives’ which is based on the 2015-16 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, and also ‘Most Innovative Online Broadcast Company-UK’.

1080 Media Founder and CEO Cliff Webb said of the awards, ‘’This is the second Clipper Race we have covered, and after the success of the first series of ‘The Race of Their Lives’ in 2013-14, we felt we could take the formula developed then and make further improvements on the coverage for the second series, which appears to have been proven in winning this award. The series is about the people taking part and their experiences as they race for 11 months around the planet on these 70-foot Clipper Race yachts. We chose key characters for each episode, and followed these amateur sailors, many of whom had never sailed before, as their epic adventure unfolded through this 40,000 mile circumnavigation. We began by following the crew training ahead of the race itself, and embedded one producer/camera operator who underwent the same training. Richard Edwards was also a novice sailor, but followed a different crew through each of the 14 races involved around the world, documenting the storms, the heat, and the emotions the crew experienced. We supplemented his coverage at each race stop-over and had extra cameras cover specific aspects such as the iconic Sydney-Hobart race.

We work together with major international networks, so the series has been broadcast in over 100 countries and on airlines thus far. It is therefore naturally very rewarding to have the hard work and effort that has gone into this series recognised with this accolade.

On behalf of the Clipper Race, Global Business and Communications Director Jonathan Levy commented, ‘’This is a very challenging production requiring news and long form programming to be produced in a very hostile environment, which is a testing of both people and equipment. The TV series perfectly captures the human story of ordinary people taking on a remarkable journey set within a highly competitive race. 1080 Media TV have turned around content in a fast and compelling way together with global distribution to major international broadcasters. We are very pleased that they have turned this into an award winning series’’.

Webb continued, ‘’in winning ‘Most Innovative Online Broadcast Company – UK’ this illustrates how we have been able to distribute the content produced, not just for the Clipper Race, but for all of our international clients. This includes live streaming, news productions and social media delivery. We offer services to a range of clients from event producers to PR agencies, sporting federations, sponsors, large corporates and broadcasters too, as we work across all forms of moving media. For the International Tennis Federation (ITF), we cover Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties, providing the news delivery to 50+ broadcasters via satellite and FTP, and also help with social media content around the ties, plus we provide live streaming of both the fed Cup and Davis Cup draws. This together with our expertise in 4G transmission systems puts us in the position of being able to offer an all-round service’’.

He concluded, ‘’We are naturally delighted to win these two awards as each illustrates our capacity to deliver high value content for our clients, and is a testament to the dedication and effort our team have put in over the past 18 months in particular’’.

2017 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Live Draw in Zagreb

It was a pleasure to work with the International Tennis Federation team during their AGM this week taking place in Zagreb, Croatia, for the live draw of the 2017 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas. This determines the draw for next year;s tournament and who plays whom where. This is the fourth year we have covered the event for the ITF, and this year we provided the complete coverage for this with all of the camera and streaming technology, but also the event PA/audio system. It was live streamed on the FedCup website and YouTube, and then we provided the rushes, which included additional post-draw interviews and images of the trophy for the ITF’s broadcast partners globally.

Fed Cup was launched in 1963 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It’s now the world’s largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, with 102 nations entering in 2016.

BBC NewBBC-Logo-iPads 4G System  – BBC news had our WMT transmission system for a two week project that included live coverage of the Queen’s birthday celebrations taking place in Windsor Great Park. BLOOMBERG SECURES GLOBAL TV RIGHTS TO WORLD’S LONGEST OCEAN RACE

BLOOMBERG SECURES GLOBAL TV RIGHTS TO WORLD’S LONGEST OCEAN RACE

Bloomberg Television has acquired the rights to sports news and long-form programming of the world’s longest ocean race.

Season two of the highly acclaimed series ‘Race of Their Lives’ airs from this weekend and comprises seven one-hour shows with an exclusive ‘access-all-areas’ pass to the tenth edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race – the unique biennial endurance challenge for amateur sailors.

The unique event was established in 1996 and sees hundreds of competently trained teams of ‘Corinthian’ competitors from all walks of life, under the command of professional skippers, take on the longest and toughest ocean race around the planet at more than 40,000 nautical miles.

It takes almost a year to complete a series of 14 races between six continents, including the challenging Australian blue water classic, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. The compelling human story of endeavour and endurance unfolds in this exclusive television series.

The first episode of the second series of ‘Race of Their Lives’ will air on Bloomberg Television on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December at 12pm GMT across EMEA. Subsequent installments will air in future months as the race progresses around the world, ending back in London at the end of July 2016.

You can also catch series one of ‘Race of Their Lives’ currently airing on Saturdays and Sundays at 1200 noon GMT (1300 CET)

UK based 1080 Media TV has been retained for a second season to produce and distribute the global long-form official TV series, live feeds, news and social media packages. “We introduced a new look and style to the production in the last race and will continue to develop a strong multi-platform approach which maximises traditional broadcast and new digital media opportunities for a strong global brand like the Clipper Race,” said Founder and CEO of 1080 Media TV Cliff Webb.

“We’ll continue to explore new technological opportunities too, filming aboard the yachts in the depths of remote and inhospitable environments such as the Southern Ocean where it’s cold, wet and dangerous. It’s a real challenge for both people and equipment but we’re confident our teams will get the best possible images to show how the crew cope with all that mother nature throws at them and bring home the stories.”

The Clipper Race fleet is owned and operated by Clipper Ventures which commissioned the TV series: “The reappointment of 1080 Media TV reflects the growing demand and diversity of requirements for our high-energy content as every-day people take on this remarkable challenge,” said Clipper Ventures Global Business and Communications Director, and executive producer, Jonathan Levy.

Well done team!

2015-16 Clipper Race to Rio is on!

Our team was in action at the weekend for a live broadcast from St.Katherine Docks as the race departed London, and then for the start of Race 1, over 5000 miles to Rio. Sadly the Bank Holiday weather was typically British, overcast and driving rain, but our team were out there getting all the action. This is a video report produced by ITN productions with our images – well done team, sail safe…
